The Marvel Cinematic Universe fans collectively groaned when Brie Larson was recast as Carol Danvers in “The Marvels” – the movie and superhero behind Captain Marvel.

Marvel fans have criticized Larson’s every move during countless press tours and interviews for the original film and Avengers: Endgame, calling her arrogant, snarky, aggressive, defensive, and everything else.

At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Larson herself was bullied as she answered a journalist’s question about her character’s future.

Is there a reason why people hate Brie Larson?

There are a variety of unjustified reasons why people dislike Larson. Larson’s character isn’t particularly popular with Marvel fans, but most of the frustration is directed at her.

After making controversial remarks about diversity, Brie Larson received backlash.

When accepting an award at the 2018 Women In Film awards, the actress, who won the Academy Award for her performance in “Room,” faced criticism for demanding more diverse film critics.

At the D23 Expo, the ‘Captain Marvel actress discussed her hatred.

As Carol Danvers, Larson will reprise her role in the “Captain Marvel” sequel, “The Marvels.”

Variety asked her how long she would play the character since many of the old Avengers characters are being retired for one reason or another. She replied snarkily.

What is the duration of your role as Captain Marvel?” asked the journalist.

Despite the journalist’s belief that Larson is being modest, she seems to be addressing the rampant hatred she received for playing the character.

In addition to Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, Emilia Clark, Zendaya, Laura Vandervoort, and Blake Lively, other candidates have been suggested online.

Even today, many people label the actress as “insufferable” in their responses to the interview.

Fans are quick to defend her and argue that their hatred of her is unfounded or rooted in sexism, saying they’re the reason she behaves the way she does.

A future Captain Marvel response from Brie Larson

Larson was asked how long she’d play Captain Marvel in an interview with Variety at D23 Expo 2022.

“I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it again?” She is still relatively new to the MCU and will likely stay on for multiple sequels.

There are still many Marvel fans voicing the same rhetoric as they did when Larson first appeared on the scene. To her critics, it’s as if no time has passed, but her army is defending her.

Because of all the backlash she has received, her candid response makes it seem that she does not know the fate of her future in the MCU, and she might even be done with it soon. Captain Marvel made a cameo appearance at the end of Ms. Marvel and will be seen in The Marvels. But what’s in store for Captain Marvel after that?

Why is there so much hate for Brie Larson? Is it just a case of sexism?

Most spaces on this Earth are hostile to women, which went twice for Larson, who also received violent threats against her. It’s common for superheroines to be labeled “Mary Sues.” At the same time, their male counterparts are allowed to be as powerful and efficient as the creators want, and the expectations are immeasurably higher.

In the MCU, 20 other films centered on men (only one of which was a Black superhero) came out before Captain Marvel. Despite the incredible difficulty of pulling off something that had never been done before, it was still judged harsher. There are problems with Captain Marvel, but let’s not pretend that every MCU vehicle is perfect.

Larson’s movie stands out because she is a woman, which means she has to face challenges that others don’t. Fans have hated the movie and Larson online, making her a point of contention among them. People don’t always appreciate it when something new is introduced into franchises they love, but she came in to make a positive difference.

What’s the Reason Behind All the Brie Larson Hate? Probably ‘Captain Marvel’

Her performance in Room earned her the Best Actress Oscar in 2016.

She receives glowing recommendations from everyone who works with her and has various film, TV, and theatrical credits across various genres. Blockbusters?

It’s okay for her to do that. Indie films? Sure. Mr. Jackson’s Unicorn Store in pink with a fabulous hairdo? No problem. So why are people so angry at her?

It has a lot to do with her portrayal of Carol Danvers in the lukewarmly received Captain Marvel. The movie’s plot was lambasted by critics as “meh,” along with the writer’s dialogue choice. Fans were scoffing at the line, “I’m not going to fight your war, even before the movie was released. Instead, I’ll end it.” Comic book geeks wondered how a war could end without fighting.

Unlike in the comics, Carol Danvers fights in the film’s war and becomes one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe.

Viewers complained about Brie Larson’s “nonchalant” and “flat” performance of the character as one of the most glaring problems with Captain Marvel.

Who is Brie Larson?

On October 1st, 1989, Brie Larson was born Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers in Sacramento, California. Her parents are homeopathic chiropractors.

Initially, Brie was homeschooled and suffered from social anxiety, while her mother was her best friend.

She spent all her free time writing and making movies with her cousins in her garage with all the time she had to herself.

From an early age, Brie knew she wanted to be an actress. So at six, she auditioned for the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

As the youngest student to attend the conservatory, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother and sister after her parents divorced a year later to pursue her acting career.

To make it work, her mother rented a one-bedroom apartment near Hollywood for the three of them, and they each had just three articles of clothing.

Brie has fond memories of their time there despite financial tightness.

Her name was difficult to pronounce at auditions, so she adopted the stage name Brie Larson.

Is Captain Marvel the most hated avenger?

As a result of Brian Michael Bendis’ Civil War 2, Carol Danvers seems to be hated by many fans, regardless of her movie and comic book.

The conflict between Captain Marvel and Tony Stark involves the young inhuman Ulysses Cain, who has visions of the future in which Miles Morales kills Steve Rogers.

Carol wants to arrest Miles, but Tony argues that it is not just to judge people for crimes they have not committed yet. Tony does not know whether the things he sees will inevitably take place or if they represent a possible future.

The portrayal of Carol was vastly different from any other to that point. Carol became an authoritative figure who believed she was always right and held her morals above everyone else’s.

Her stance during the storyline has caused fans to dislike her even more. Many would argue that judging someone based on a crime they haven’t committed is morally unjust.
