It’s interesting to be in Hollywood. Today’s greatest movies are made there, where dreams are born, superstars are made, and dreams become reality. But, conversely, it can also be a very ruthless place. Movies and television are very competitive industries. A career can be instantly ruined by one wrong move, step, or action.
Even though there is no formal Hollywood “blacklist,” there are several people whose careers have fallen off a cliff, not due to a lack of talent. People can be blocked for several reasons, such as a public freakout, being difficult to work with, or being racist and homophobic. It has also recently been revealed that some actresses had their careers torpedoed because they turned down the unwanted advances from some of Hollywood’s most powerful men.

“You know, it’s not really what I do, so if you ask me to do it, you will have to expect that it will be toned down. I feel like this as an [mother] of three,” she told the Daily Mail in 2009.
Anna Kendrick
She used a body double in “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,” even though she appeared naked. The actress has refused to do nude scenes in her films. According to The Telegraph, she told them that she would not be doing that. However, she added that she does not criticize people who do [nude scenes] but plans to keep doing what she is doing and hopes it will keep going well.
Tippi Hedren
After being discovered by Alfred Hitchcock, Tippi Hedren got her big break as a Hollywood actress. She began her career as a fashion model in her early twenties. Hedren went on to star in two films directed by Hitchcock – the suspense thriller “The Birds” (1963) and the psychological drama “Marnie” (1964) – but their relationship soon deteriorated.
Hedren reportedly turned down Hitchcock’s sexual advances and told the filmmaker “Marnie” would be their last collaboration. Hitchcock threatened to ruin her career by refusing to release Hedren from her contract and preventing her from getting work for two years before selling the agreement in 1966. She became a vocal animal rights activist after her acting career recovered.
Anne Hathaway
An interview with Anne Hathaway discussed how women are placed in roles and how younger actresses play their age-appropriate roles. There is always a need for younger performers to play roles that are inappropriate for their age in the entertainment industry. As a young woman in my late twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would be offered them. At this point, I’m in my early thirties, and I’m wondering, ‘Why did that 24-year-old get that part?'” Hathaway had said.
Jennifer Lawrence
The actor claims Hollywood deems her “too heavy” and “huge” because she refuses to starve herself for parts. When I was starting out, I was told by the producers of a film when I was a young actor to lose 15 pounds in two weeks. In an interview, Lawrence explained that one girl had already been fired for not losing weight fast enough. Her opposition to the harmful weight-loss culture within the industry has also been made public since then.
Isaiah Washington
With dozens of television and movie credits, Washington has been a Hollywood veteran for many years. He is probably best known for his role as Preston Burke on “Grey’s Anatomy.” However, he was fired after using a homophobic slur about a fellow cast member. A Golden Globe win was his final nail in the coffin, so he used the offense again. While he still works occasionally (and has a recurring role on “The 100,” he isn’t working nearly as much as he could.
Mindy Kaling
In the past, a television network offered Mindy Kaling the opportunity to star in a sketch show, however, she had to apply for it in order to take part. However, she was rejected for the show later because she was not considered suitable to play. Afterward, Kaling went on to star in the monstrous hit show ‘The Office, which continued to air for many years to come.
